Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Weather-Kok.

App Basics

Is Weather-Kok free? +
Yes! All core features (real-time weather, air quality, 7-day forecast) are completely free to use. The app may include ads served via Google AdMob.
Which devices are supported? +
Weather-Kok supports both Android and iOS devices. Exact minimum OS version requirements are available on the app store listing.

Location

Why does the app need location permission? +
Weather-Kok uses your location to provide the most accurate and relevant weather and air quality information for where you actually are. Your location is used temporarily only when fetching weather data and is never stored on our servers. If you prefer not to grant location permission, you can manually search for and set a location instead.
Is my location data stored? +
No. Your location is used only at the moment of the weather API request and is not stored in any database or server. We do not track your location in the background. For full details, please see our Privacy Policy.
Can I check weather for a different location? +
Yes! Even without granting location permission, you can manually search for any location to check its weather. This is handy for planning trips or checking on family and friends in other areas.

Air Quality Data

Where does the air quality data come from? +
Weather-Kok's air quality data comes from AirKorea, the official air quality monitoring system operated by the Korea Environment Corporation. AirKorea operates over 500 monitoring stations nationwide and provides real-time PM10 and PM2.5 readings.
How are the air quality grades defined? +
Weather-Kok uses the Korean Ministry of Environment's PM2.5 four-tier grading system:

  • 😊 Good: 0~15 ㎍/㎥ — Safe for outdoor activities
  • 😐 Moderate: 16~35 ㎍/㎥ — Generally acceptable
  • 😷 Bad: 36~75 ㎍/㎥ — Sensitive groups should limit outdoor activity
  • 🚨 Very Bad: 76+ ㎍/㎥ — Avoid outdoor activities

Home Screen Widget

How do I add the weather widget to my home screen? +
Android:
Long press on an empty area of your home screen → tap Widgets → find Weather-Kok → drag and drop the widget onto your home screen.

iOS:
Long press on the home screen → tap the + button in the top corner → search for Weather-Kok → choose your preferred widget size → tap Add Widget. For lock screen widgets, long press the lock screen → tap Customize → add a widget to the lock screen area.
The widget is not updating. What should I do? +
Widget data refreshes at scheduled intervals to conserve battery. To get an immediate update, tap the widget to open the app — it will sync with the latest data. On Android, you can allow the app to bypass battery optimization for more frequent widget updates (Settings > Battery > Battery optimization > Weather-Kok > Don't optimize).

Weather Data

How often is the weather data updated? +
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) publishes short-term forecast data every hour. Weather-Kok fetches the latest data each time you open the app or manually refresh. Air quality data from AirKorea is also updated on an hourly basis.
Why might the weather differ from other apps? +
Weather-Kok directly uses the official KMA API. Other apps may rely on private weather services or different data sources, which can result in slight differences. For weather in South Korea, Weather-Kok's data is sourced directly from the official national meteorological authority and is among the most accurate available.
